UNSER WEINGUT

Situated in the heart
of the Rheinhessen and now in our second generation, the
Weitzel family cultivates 5 hectares of vines in some of
the best positions in Grosswinterheim, of which the steep
and stoney south-facing Bockstein stands out. Its chalky
soil makes its unique mark on our wines. Since 1994 we have
been producing wine on an ecological basis which yields
small quantities but high quality.
We are members of the Federal Association
of Ecological Wine Growers and we take time to carefully
produce and bottle our wines. A little more than half our
wines are red wines with a taste of tannin. A harmonious
fruit acid provides a pleasant full-bodied aftertaste. We
use the Sp˙tburgunder (pinot noir) and Portugieser grape
varieties.
Their bouquet is reminiscient of
fruits of the forest, almonds and cherries. Our white wines
are predominately the traditional German Riesling - fresh,
lively with a hint of peach and a robust (acidic backbone).
Take time out to visit our vineyard and see how the wine
producers work in harmony with the land and vines to produce
award-winning wines.
The
jewel in our vineyard crown is the Bockstein with its slopes
of up to 45ç, interspersed with dry walls: chalk is the
fundament used by generations of wine growers to build support
walls to enable them to cultivate the vines better. The
vines are rooted in chalkstone which makes its particular
mark on the wine. A fine bouquet rises up from the glass
with hints of ripe peaches, apricots, cherries and blackberries.
Each new vintage compensates the
hard work and low yields through its finesse and strength.
We are proud of our work and strive to produce wines which
can stand beside the biggest names in the world.
